The Highs and Lows of Unemployement in Australia

Posted: February 3rd, 2012 | No Comments »

There were few changes with the employment rate in Australia. The Far West of New South Wales and the Far North of Queensland have the highest unemployment in the whole Australia. In the far North Queensland, Cairns, they have a jobless rate averaging to 8.8% from last year. On the far West NSW, they have an average unemployment rate of 8.5% from last year.

The high unemployment rate in the Far North Queensland can be caused on the Australian dollar and the global uncertainties which affect the tourist flows of the region. While the Far West NSW has a less obvious reason, it’s more on the reduced job opportunities in the region.

On the northern part of the Gold Coast, is also affected by these challenging conditions especially on the tourism sector and real estate downturn.

Areas with the lowest job rates in Australia are Brisbane, Inner Melbourne, Central Northern Sydney and the Central Metropolitan Perth. These regions dominate the low jobless rate rankings.

The further you travel away from these major cities (with low unemployment rates), the higher the jobless rate you’ll find. So for those foreign workers looking to land a job in Australia, make sure to check with your Australian migration expert.
