Western Australia is set to welcome new members within its state soon where 4 out or 5 WA companies that were surveyed said that they plan to hire more workers abroad in order to fill vacant positions within their companies.
A survey was made by a firm called KPMG after finding out that international recruitment is on the rise because of the rise of skill shortages in every state except in Queensland. While some believe that having shortages in employees is nothing to worry about, in Perth, it is a major concern. The mining and resource industries in Australia have projects waiting in line if there is a shortage with employees; those projects are as good as scrap. We are not talking about small projects – these projects are worth MILLIONS of dollars. This is the reason why Perth is included as a regional area with employers looking for fly in and fly out skilled workers in order to fill the much needed positions within their companies. Australia spends 38 million dollars enhancing immigration settlement services. Because of the recent high demand for workers, Australia Immigration Minister Chris Bowen, and Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Sen. Kate Lundy announced that the government is willing to shell out as much as $38.5 million in the next financial year in order to improve the condition of migrants and help them settle in the new community. Basic Requirements
In order for all applicants to apply for a visa in the General Skilled Migration program, they have to meet the specific requirements that the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) have set.
For the applicants to qualify for the Skilled visa, they and their partners are required to comply the basic visa requirements in relation to the age, English language ability, skills, qualification, occupation, work experience as well as health and character.

The latest statistics confirmed that WA’s construction sector has risen to 12.5% within seasonally adjusted terms.
This is considered to be the biggest rise in history, dating back to the year 1986. The rise is due to several key mining projects, especially within the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is expected that jobs in Western Australia, especially within the construction and mining sectors will reach its highest peak within the first months of 2012. So will the lack of skilled workers. Also, the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that residential buildings fell by 1.1% within the September quarter. Last year, the residential buildings fell by 3.5% within the same month.
